Brilliant Miles, I guess the takeaway is that “every joke is a confession!” And sadly, too many rubes are falling for it.

Furthermore, it’s almost impossible to reach the MAGA people, they’ve dived head first into the abyss.

Moreover, I would posit that Mark Twain was right when he said, “it’s easier to fool a man, than to ever convince him he’s been fooled!”

Bottom line: I have no doubt that Trump will attempt to cheat in the midterms, they’re already doing it, so it is critical we reach out to as many people as possible and register them to vote.

And if someone is registered, make sure their paperwork is in order. I wouldn’t put anything past these people; they are as ruthless as they are relentless, and I don’t mean it in a good way. IMHO…:)

Who can forget JD Asswipe trying to make the AI-generated 'Frito Bandito' mustache and sombrero caricature of Hakeem Jeffries into 'it's a yolk, son, cantcha take a yolk?' throw-away comment, complete with fake giggling and phony smiles for the cameras to demonstrate that he, JD, knows how to tell a yolk -- followed by more giggling to show how relaxed in front the cameras he is....

These people make me sad I never learned the fine art of projectile vomiting in their phony presence.

Scientific American article 1/11/2021 by Tanya Lewis provides some interesting insights.

An excerpt:

“Do you think Trump is truly exhibiting delusional or psychotic behavior? Or is he simply behaving like an autocrat making a bald-faced attempt to hold onto his power?

I believe it is both. He is certainly of an autocratic disposition because his extreme narcissism does not allow for equality with other human beings, as democracy requires. Psychiatrists generally assess delusions through personal examination, but there is other evidence of their likelihood. First, delusions are more infectious than strategic lies, and so we see, from their sheer spread, that Trump likely truly believes them. Second, his emotional fragility, manifested in extreme intolerance of realities that do not fit his wishful view of the world, predispose him to psychotic spirals. Third, his public record includes numerous hours of interviews and interactions with other people—such as the hour-long one with the Georgia secretary of state—that very nearly confirm delusion, as my colleague and I discovered in a systematic analysis.

Where does the hatred some of his supporters display come from? And what can we do to promote healing?

In Profile of a Nation, I outline the many causes that create his followership. But there is important psychological injury that arises from relative—not absolute—socioeconomic deprivation. Yes, there is great injury, anger and redirectable energy for hatred, which Trump harnessed and stoked for his manipulation and use. The emotional bonds he has created facilitate shared psychosis at a massive scale. It is a natural consequence of the conditions we have set up. For healing, I usually recommend three steps: (1) Removal of the offending agent (the influential person with severe symptoms). (2) Dismantling systems of thought control—common in advertising but now also heavily adopted by politics. And (3) fixing the socioeconomic conditions that give rise to poor collective mental health in the first place.”

“Whenever the Goldwater rule is mentioned, we should refer back to the Declaration of Geneva, which mandates that physicians speak up against destructive governments,” Lee says. “This declaration was created in response to the experience of Nazism.”

Thank you for very clearly showing what has been right in front of us for years. It makes my stomach sink. It appears the majority of Republicans want all of these things to happen and it is mind boggling. I also believe Americans will rally to keep our freedoms and democracy alive.

The majority of these Republicans that want this stuff to happen will most likely find it also happens to them further down the road in this authoritarian nightmare. Soon enough there won’t be a distinction between the non-cultists and the maga cultists.

Clearly, Trump is no comedian, and his jokes are instantaneously realized to be the threats that will be followed through by most.

The real joke here is the enablers — Congress and the Supreme Court.

Still not laughing.

Thank you, Miles for your laser-point clarity and as always, for your courage.

You possess a tremendous gift as an orator, evidenced again in the CNN clip at the end of this piece.

Your voice is indeed awakening people to 'the clear and present danger' that we, our republic, and our democracy, face.

I believe more people are aware of the danger, but are stunned, rather than complacent, and perhaps require to be spoken to~albeit, repeatedly~with candor, clarity and urgency, as you do, steadfastly and unwaveringly.

Immense respect and admiration for you, Miles Taylor.

Malignant narcissists are never really funny. “Humor” is always at someone else’s expense. And, of course, it’s never a joke. It’s deadly serious. I just wonder why more people don’t just not understand it but actually approve of it.

Trump is transparent. He is seen through the eyes of the beholder. In a cargo cult democracy, performance politics becomes ritualized. Trump and his enablers’ frenzied dance of death has gone too far, too fast. This is bringing their downfall. The Republic will stand.

Oh, I saw this back during his first campaign & have seen it daily since then. I'm a history major & have a huge interest in WWII, especially the European theater so I've seen all this coming since day 1. When I talked about it I could see people roll their eyes at my comments! Well, my guess is that those eyes aren't rolling any more.

I remember saying that if trump got elected the second time that the only thing people who saw it coming could say, is: "WE TOLD YOU SO!" That's small consolation for those of us who gave warning! Being right in this case is no consolation! None at all. I would much rather have been wrong & have people laugh at what I had said!

I can only say that New Yorkers warned the country about Trump way back in 2015...and so did psychologists.

What an excellent piece Miles!!! Thanks!! ... And spot on in each paragraph. I always knew that he wasn't joking, when I saw what he said in his State of the Union speeches, but that is only b/c I've known what he's like and what he's done for over 60 years. People are so slow at times when it comes to things like this, and it truly hurts the country. People need more Common Sense. So much of what I witness seems like a lack of it. We TRULY NEED to correct our educational systems in America.

Thanks for showing up and sharing all; not to mention, Miles, under the threat of being a similar target before long.

It was great also getting to “meet” Elie Hornig as I’m presently listening to him read his book “Untouchable “ to me!!
